Virtual speed networking is a great way for people with similar interests to connect. With virtual events, attendees have access to a wider range of people since you can hop on a call from anywhere. Instead of putting a hold on professional networking during the pandemic, you can host speed networking with a combination of Zoom and Glimpse, a platform made for randomized one on one timed calls.

Rather than manually moving event attendees from one breakout room to another, you can send a link to a Glimpse room into the Zoom chat. A Glimpse room is set up so that attendees are automatically matched for one-on-one, time-boxed video calls.

There are several Glimpse features that can enhance speed networking events. On Glimpse, there is a resume upload feature where individuals can share their resumes during the calls. Glimpse also provides “match-types”: any Glimpse host can set up “match types” indicating the two or more groups that will be attending the event (i.e: recruiters vs. attendees). When someone enters the Glimpse room, they’ll be asked to select which group they belong in and which group they’d like to match with.

Here is a quick and easy tutorial on how to create a speed-networking event using Glimpse and Zoom:

  1. Make a Glimpse Room: Go to Glimpse and click on “Start Glimpsing!”

This takes you to the Glimpse video platform page. To create a room, click on “🚀 Register to Create a Room.”

This will bring you to the Glimpse log-in page. Here you will be able to create a Glimpse account using either your phone number, email, or Facebook account. After making your account, select the “Create” box to set up your first Glimpse Room.

2. Customize your Glimpse room settings to enhance your event: There are several customizations you can make to your Glimpse room. You can start off by personalizing your event: select a room name and create a short room description. Afterwards, you can customize matching features by adding “match-types”, adjusting the length of match times, choosing the amount of match extensions, and selecting whether participants can upload their resume.

3. Set up a Zoom call, make announcements, and have everyone join the Glimpse room: The final step is to have everyone join a Zoom meeting, walk everyone through how the Glimpse event will work, provide the Glimpse room link, and begin Glimpsing!
